MACH1 Coastal Adventures:

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Welcome to the fleet. Before you command your own high-performance craft through the Wilmington waterways, review these essential operating parameters to ensure a safe, high-velocity adventure.

BOOKING, LOGISTICS & POLICIES

Do I need prior boating experience to drive?

Negative. While our watercraft are engineered for high performance and agility, the controls are incredibly intuitive. Prior to launch, our team provides a mandatory safety briefing and hands-on orientation to move you directly into the Captain’s seat. You will be confident in no time.

How does the tour actually work?

We operate as a guided convoy. Your guide commands the lead pace boat—navigating the best routes while tracking local marine wildlife and coastal terrain. You and your crew follow directly in the slipstream in your own individual craft, giving you the autonomy to carve through the wake while remaining securely on course.

Where do your tours depart from?

Our primary staging area is the Carolina Beach Boatyard & Marina—unless alternative coordinates are arranged for a custom charter. Once your booking is confirmed, we will dispatch your precise pinpoint location, parking directives, and explicit dock numbers.

How early should I arrive?

Arrive exactly 30 minutes prior to your scheduled launch time. This window ensures a stress-free check-in, time to secure your gear, and allows everyone to attend the mandatory safety briefing. Because the fleet operates on a strict schedule, late arrivals who miss the orientation cannot be accommodated and will not be refunded.

What is your cancellation and weather policy?

  • Weather: Safety is our baseline parameter. If the Lead Captain determines that high winds, heavy rain, or lightning compromise operational safety, we will contact you immediately to reschedule or issue a 100% refund. We maintain operations through minor, passing rain—our hulls are engineered for it.
  • Guest Cancellations: Standard bookings require a strict 48-hour notice for a full refund or rescheduling. Cancellations made within 48 hours of launch are completely non-refundable.

ON BOARD RULES & PREPARATION

What are the age and legal requirements to drive or ride?

  • To Command: Operators must be a minimum of 21 years of age with a valid photo ID.
  • To Ride: Passengers must be a minimum of 5 years of age.

Do I need a boating license?

For our guided tours, no prior boating experience is required. Every driver completes our safety orientation and operator check-in before departure. Drivers must be at least 21 years old and present a valid government-issued photo ID.

Can we switch drivers during the tour?

Affirmative. Provided both crew members are 21+ and completed the initial safety briefing, your guide will designate a calm zone mid-tour where you can safely swap positions at the helm.

What should I wear and bring?

Expect a fast, close-to-the-water ride with physical atmospheric disruption and water spray.

  • Wear: Technical swimwear or quick-dry athletic apparel—layer appropriately for variable coastal wind conditions.
  • Footwear: Secure, strapped footwear is mandatory (marine shoes, sandals with straps, or sneakers). Loose flip-flops, heels, or heavy boots capable of scuffing the hull deck are prohibited.
  • Bring: Valid ID, towel, polarized eyewear (a retention strap is highly recommended), and protective sunscreen.

Can we bring food, alcohol, or valuables?

  • Rations: Small snacks and non-alcoholic beverages are permitted. Glass containers are strictly banned from the fleet—utilize aluminum cans, plastic, or stainless steel vessels.
  • Valuables: Lock major valuables in your vehicle ashore. You may bring a dry storage container or bag on the craft for critical gear like phones and keys—however, MACH1 accepts no liability for moisture damage or loss to personal items.
  • Smoking/Vaping: To preserve asset integrity and guest safety, MACH1 operations are 100% smoke-free and vape-free.

SAFETY, HEALTH & ACCESSIBILITY

Are your captains certified?

Affirmative. MACH1 deploys exclusively USCG-licensed Captains and guides highly skilled in maritime safety, navigation, and local tidal waterways.

What type of boat will we be driving?

You will command a custom, high-performance mini powerboat meticulously engineered to balance velocity, stability, and absolute control. Designed to slice through aggressive coastal chop with precise geometric lines, the hull delivers an agile, adrenaline-driven, yet highly secure ride.

Is there a restroom on board the boats?

Negative. There are no marine heads on board individual watercraft. We strongly recommend using the land-based marina facilities immediately prior to the mandatory safety briefing.

What are the physical restrictions and weight limits?

Because these are high-output watercraft built to navigate active wakes on plane, the ride is highly kinetic. For safety reasons, these missions are not recommended for pregnant guests or individuals managing severe back, neck, or cardiac conditions. Total combined weight capacity per craft is exactly 435 lbs.

What is your policy on life jackets?

In strict compliance with US Coast Guard regulations, personal flotation devices are supplied for all crew members. All minors under the age of 13 must wear an approved life jacket at all times while the craft is underway. We supply comfortable, custom-fitted gear for all profiles, from infants to adults.

⚠️ ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY⚠️

To guarantee absolute collective safety within the convoy, consuming alcohol or controlled substances before or during deployment is entirely prohibited. Any operator suspected of being under the influence will be barred from launch immediately with zero refund.

GROUP BOOKINGS & PRIVATE CHARTERS

Do you offer private group tours or corporate events?

Affirmative. Whether executing a corporate team-building event, an elite private gathering, or a large family reunion, MACH1 is engineered for groups that demand velocity. We can reserve the entire fleet exclusively for your team—giving you the power to dictate the pace and operational vibe of your tour.

How many people can you accommodate at once?

Because our fleet consists of dual-passenger powerboats, we can deploy a massive convoy out on the water simultaneously. For teams exceeding single-launch capacity, we execute seamless, back-to-back staggered tours paired with a shoreside staging hub.

Can we customize a private charter itinerary?

Absolutely. With a full-fleet private charter, your team dictates the mission blueprint. Want to focus entirely on a fast, high-performance run through deep-water channels? Prefer to throttle back for an observational eco-tour tracking coastal dolphin pods, or execute a dedicated stop to scout remote barrier islands for fossilized shark teeth? Our guides will lock down a route tailored to your exact objective.

How do we book a large group, and what is the policy?

  • Lead Time: Private charters and configurations exceeding 3 craft must be booked at least 3 to 4 weeks in advance to guarantee fleet availability.
  • Deposits: Large group bookings require a 50% deposit at the time of booking, with the remaining balance settled exactly 7 days prior to launch.
  • Cancellation Parameters: Group charters maintain an extended 7-day cancellation window for a full refund.
