Born on the Water

Some ideas start in the boardroom. MACH1 was born on the water.

It began in Wilmington, North Carolina, where two friends, Brian and Matt, realized that the true magic of the Carolina coast was being completely overlooked. They saw tourists stuck on the shores or crowded onto slow tour boats, missing the real pulse of the ocean. They knew there was a better way to experience it.

Escape Meets Expertise

Brian and Matt came from two different worlds, but they shared the exact same love for the sea.

Brian spent his weeks trapped in the corporate finance grind—navigating long hours, glowing spreadsheets, and office walls. His only true reset was escaping to the coast, where the salt air and an open throttle could finally drown out the noise of the desk job.

Matt, on the other hand, lived his life anchored to the water. He spent his days guiding boaters through local channels and his free time combing remote barrier islands for prehistoric shark teeth.

Bridging that gap required both the perspective of an outsider and the knowledge of an insider. When Brian’s need for a high-octane escape met Matt’s deep expertise of the local waters, the blueprint for MACH1 took shape. Together, they realized they could pull people off those crowded shores and create a way for anyone to break free from the ordinary, unlocking that same raw sense of adventure, curiosity, and freedom.
